Grit Test (Duckworth Grit Scale)

A ten-statement self-assessment adapted from Angela Duckworth's Grit Scale. Grit is perseverance and passion for long-term goals, and in Duckworth's research it predicts achievement better than talent or IQ alone.

How it works

Rate each of the 10 statements from 1 (not like me at all) to 5 (very much like me). Half of the statements are reverse-scored, so agreeing with "I change my goals often" lowers your score. Your grit score is the average across all statements, from 1 to 5, and the page explains what each range typically means.

The statements

  1. I stay focused on projects that take a long time to complete.
  2. I often start new goals but lose interest before finishing them.
  3. I keep working hard even when progress feels slow.
  4. I find it difficult to stay interested in the same goal for a long time.
  5. I finish whatever I begin.
  6. I get discouraged easily when I face challenges.
  7. I am a hard worker.
  8. I change my goals often.
  9. I continue working toward my goals even after setbacks.
  10. I lose focus when things become difficult.

Why I put it here

I use grit as a hiring and self-check lens: consistency of interest and persistence of effort matter more over years than a bright start. Take the test, then read my leadership principles or try the Ikigai test.
