Shabbat Times: Candle Lighting and Havdalah Near You
A small utility that tells you when the next Shabbat comes in and goes out wherever you happen to be. It asks the browser for your location, or takes a country and city you type, and shows candle-lighting and Havdalah times with a live countdown.
How it works
- The browser Geolocation API provides your coordinates after you approve the request. Nothing is sent to this site's server.
- The Hebcal Shabbat API returns candle-lighting (18 minutes before sunset) and Havdalah (nightfall) times for those coordinates, plus the weekly Torah portion or holiday.
- If location access is declined or unavailable, you can enter a country and city instead; the page geocodes it with OpenStreetMap and fetches the same times.
What you see
The name of the parasha or holiday, the Hebrew date, candle-lighting time, Havdalah time, and a countdown to the next transition. During Shabbat the countdown switches to the time remaining until Havdalah. Times are shown in the local time zone of the place you chose.
